3 Ways to Embrace Yourself

I have been working hard to compare myself to others less and embrace myself more. In this era of social media, it is virtually effortless to look at pictures of beautiful people with incredible lifestyles. Sometimes social media can be great. You can connect with people that share amazing life messages. For those of us who are on a journey to replace negative mantras with positive self-messages, however, social media can be a slippery slope. When we’re feeling low about our own self-esteem, social media can play right into the ego and further strengthen our negative mantra. Since we don’t have unlimited time, it doesn’t make sense to expend energy wishing we were someone or somewhere else. This sort of thinking only takes away from the richness and quality of our lives. Here are 3 ways to help embrace yourself.
Live life without regrets
As morbid as this may sound, remembering that we all eventually die is the most effective wake up call to stop taking time for granted. It puts a shift on perspective. I can either choose to focus on something that won’t change or make the most out of an experience. This mental adjustment allows me to regroup and to make a choice. Do I want to continue feeling negative about not being good enough or do I want to embrace my best qualities and be present with the people around me. There are precious moments to be had with your friends, family, partner etc. Every day is a new opportunity to gain more personal introspection. I don’t want to miss out and find myself wishing for more time when it’s too late. I want to reflect on my life and be filled with happiness at all the beautiful moments. Live life without regrets!
Think about the reasons people love you
When we compare ourselves, we often focus on the negative as opposed to the positive. The next time you compare yourself to someone else, think about all the amazing people in your life and what they see in you. Shift your mind to channel any negative energy into allowing your positive qualities to shine brighter. Your positive qualities are your essence, the true you. Your negative juju is only trying to dim your sparkle and allow your ego to govern your mind.
Do things that makes your soul feel alive
It’s incredibly important we find time for the activities and things that make our soul feel alive. When we’re present, happy and alive in a moment we operate from our soul. Our soul, our true being, radiates every cell in our body and creates a glow. The soul brings peace, contentment and frees us from suffering. Some of us achieve this sensation through yoga, a hike, dancing or by cooking. Do whatever activities fuel your soul and do them as often as you can.
In Yoga we have Sadhana. Our Sadhana is practice that addresses our lifestyle and spiritual exercises to develop mastery over the mind. Our Sadhana is a daily practice that includes things like asana, pranayama (breathing), mantra, meditation, diet and service to others. In addition to whatever activities make you feel alive, find time daily to help develop more mental strength and maintain balance through your Sadhana. This includes the types of foods you eat, awareness of your mental thoughts when your mind strays etc. By achieving more balance in our daily routines, we can help stay connected to our true selves and conquer the ego whenever it tries to fool us!

It’s not always easy, but I can tell you that whatever the ego tries to repeat about you not being good enough, or smart enough, or pretty enough is simply false ?.
