DIY Calf Roller
Posted on October 31st, 2016
As someone who has been coping with extreme calf pain from a very young age, I’m always finding new ways to work through knots in my legs. In addition to stretching and acupuncture, rolling out the calves is the perfect way to release tension. It’s critical to eliminate tension so that we can feel and be our best selves.
In Physical Therapy I use ‘the stick’ to work out the gastrocnemius muscle, which I find works really well. If you’re looking for a way to roll out your calves or IT band, I recommend using a rolling pin. It’s free and achieves the same effect. If you haven’t used one before, it’s super easy! Just roll the stick or rolling pin along your IT band and calves. In the same way you use a form roller for your back, focus on working on the areas that need it most.
Like with all asana, always make sure to breathe through the pain. Breathe in deeply through the nose, using the diaphragm, and breathe out a nice long exhale through the nose. Each step you take to release tension, the more you are returning to your natural peaceful state.
