Drinking tea pre or post yoga can greatly enhance the benefits of your practice. For example, drinking chamomile or lavender tea before a restorative class can deepen your state of relaxation, allowing you to sink further and more openly into the pose. Recently I have been drinking green tea before I meditate as I find it helps induce better focus.
Although recovery limits you from your practice, the healing process is the perfect time to explore different teas and reap their benefits. A personal favourite is rosemary tea. Rosemary tea really relaxes my muscles and my mind. It’s the perfect compliment post-PT exercises.
Ayurvedically rosemary decreases Vata and Kapha, while slightly increasing Pitta. It is good for the heart and the emotions. Rosemary has shown that it could aid in circulation to the brain. It is also used to ease menstruation and aids for stress relief.
