Recovery means stillness, lot’s of it. While it’s completely understandable to feel stir crazy, it’s still a good idea to remind yourself to appreciate this down time. The other day I was talking with one of my best friends, and while we were catching up she was telling me all about her busy schedule; this is true for so many of us when we are in our normal routine! Hearing my friend talk about her schedule reminded me how lucky I am to have all this time to work on myself, to grow and for self-care.

Taking care of your feet is so important as they experience so much wear and tear. Our poor feet are often so forgotten even though they absorb the shock as we walk and support the weight of our whole body. In many Eastern medicine practices, taking care of the feet is an extremely important way to release toxins. In Ayurveda, the feet is one of the first places to begin treatment.

A simple and easy self-care treatment that can be done while resting on the sofa is moisturizing the feet and heels with warm herbal oils. Moisturizing creams work as a substitute, although specialized oil for your dosha is preferred. Particularly for Vata types, the air element, it is easy to get dry and cracked soles. Apply the oil to the foot, massaging any tensions in the foot. Immediately afterwards put on socks to help absorb the moisture. Do as often as needed. Simple, effective and hydrating!

Namaste!
